EarthClock, a free tool for Windows PCs, provides a visually appealing means of staying on top of the time. In the background of its round and skinnable interface, the application displays a view of the Earth. In the foreground, the application displays clock hands so you can tell the time. You can set it so the view of the Earth corresponds with your geographical location. If you’re in Amsterdam for example, Amsterdam will be right in the middle of the clock.

The developer has two things to offer: the EarthClock installer (download it, run it, quickly install EarthClock on your Windows PC) and the EarthClock source (get it if you want to run EarthClock on Linux or Mac OS X).
Getting back to the EarthClock installer, it must be mentioned that the application is offered under a GNU GPL (Generak Public License), meaning that if you install EarthClock, you will be able to use it for free for as long as you want.

As previously mentioned, EarthClock displays the time in the foreground and a view of the Earth in the background. There are a few extra details you need to know about the interface: select the size (small, medium, large, or huge); change the view (Earth view, Moon view, or geographical location view); change the skin (2 skins are built in, more are available for download); disable the clock.

The links to “more views from web” and “more skins from web” lead to a 404. So if you want to get more views and more skins, you cannot do it directly from EarthClock. You must visit EarthClock’s official webpage and then browse the Views and Skins sections.

Released under a GNU General Public License (GPL), EarthClock is free software.

Check out the time and check out a nice view of the Earth, all thanks to the free application EarthClock.

Pros

You can get the EarthClock installer and quickly install EarthClock on your PC. You can also get the EarthClock source and do whatever you want with it. The interface can be customized: pick a skin, change the interface size, disable the clock, change the view. EarthClock is free software.

Cons

The links to “more views from web” and “more skins from web” lead to a 404. Only Windows 2000 and XP have been tested successfully.
